Sophie Monk goes moody on red carpet

GREY skies and a downfall of rain doesn't make for the most spectacular of red carpet arrivals, but the biggest names in Australian film and television have done their best at the AACTA Awards in Sydney this afternoon.

Industry elites like Rachel Griffiths, Simon Baker, Anthony LaPaglia and Margaret Pomeranz are all set to attend the event and, as we speak, each of them is bracing themselves for having to make small talk with a Real Housewife of Whatever or a television DIY expert.

Serving up a completely different look to the structured, fuchsia number she wore at the ARIA Awards a week ago, Sophie Monk has decided to go a little moodier in a black and racy frock.

The little black dress - which featured a black skirt with a thigh-high split - showed off a lot of flesh, with the Love Island host flashing her tanned and toned legs as she posed for photographers.

Arriving alone - and no doubt igniting more rumours about her relationship with publican Stu Laundy - Monk decided to style her hair in a messy topknot.

Rubbing shoulders with Australian film and television elite tonight will be Real Housewives of Sydney star Melissa Tkautz. I kind of hope she's seated on a table with Rachel Griffiths, Anthony LaPaglia and Margaret Pomeranz where they're all forced to talk about their respective projects for three hours.

Simon Baker has arrived looking dapper and gorgeous in his suit and transition lenses.

So. Handsome.

The Block's Shaynna Blazer has arrived and, honestly, there's actually nothing to look at. The feeling of it, it's actually quite vanilla.

That's not my thoughts on her dress. I stole that criticism from Shaynna herself when she slammed Josh and Elyse's room on The Block.

She looks fine. Not sure about the statement rings.

Raising a sartorial middle finger to the dull grey tones being dictated by the weather, Sunrise's Edwina Bartholomew and former Miss World Australia Erin Holland have both decided to go bold in red.

Never afraid of a little drama and Elizabethan vibes, Wentworth star Danielle Cormack has stunned in a high-necked maroon gown. Distinct and theatrical, the dress has a sheer low-cut V down the front and detailed layers of fabric circles gathered up the skirt.

Marta Dusseldorp and Abby Early both wore the pants - with varying success.

And Emma Booth, Melina Vidler and Jessica McNamee have all offered up the sparkle for the evening.
