Gai Waterhouse backing her colt to fire in Golden Slipper

LEADING trainer Gai Waterhouse said she remained supremely confident about the chances of Golden Slipper favourite Vancouver despite the colt drawing barrier 18 for Saturday's $3.5 million classic at Rosehill.

Unbeaten in three starts in Sydney, the son of Medaglia D'Oro drifted from $2.60 to $3 with TattsBet, while second-favourite Exosphere held his place at $4.60 after coming up with gate 10.

Waterhouse, who also has fillies English and Speak Fondly engaged, said: "He (Vancouver) will win, and most importantly after the draw, he'll be better odds".

A victory would see Waterhouse (pictured) equal the record of six Golden Slipper wins held by her father, the late Tommy Smith.

One-time race favourite Headwater ($10) will take his place in the field after completing a satisfactory track gallop yesterday.

The Godolphin-trained Furnaces firmed to $11 after drawing barrier one.
