International hunt for two children turns to Maleny
AN international hunt for two missing children has turned to Maleny after police revealed their mother had family connections with the area.
Thomas and Serena Speath have been missing since December 5 when their mother, Jane Adare, picked them up from their father's home in Brisbane.
While the Federal Court of Australia issued a a recovery order for the children in February, it yesterday took the unusual step of lifting restrictions on the media publishing their names and photos.
"The location of Jane and the children is unknown but they are likely to be in the south-east Queensland area, particularly the northern suburbs of Brisbane and the Maleny area of the Sunshine Coast hinterland," a statement from the Federal Court said.
"There is some concern however, that as Jane is a UK/Australian dual national, they may have gone to the UK.
"The children have not been present at school and the Queensland Department of Education has advised that the children are not enrolled at any other school in the state.
"There is a chance that Jane may be driving a new vehicle and they may be travelling with a small white Chihuahua Pomeranian cross named 'Pom Pom'."
The children's mother is also known to go by the names of Leisa-Jane Felsman and Leisa-Jane Allsopp and was born in February 1969.
She has light brown hair with some grey but it may have since been dyed blond.
She also has hazel eyes and a fair complexion, is about 165cm tall and weighs about 52kg.
The Federal Court could not elaborate on the family's links to Maleny except to say the children's mother may have family in the area.
Serena was born on March 29, 2009, and has short blond hair and blues eyes.
She is about 115cm tall and of slight build.
Serena is missing her upper right front tooth and her upper left front tooth is chipped.
She is extremely allergic to eggs and allergic to peanuts and carries an Epipen auto injector in case she suffers an anaphylactic attack.
Thomas Kurt Michael Speath, born 27 April 2010 has short blond hair, blue eyes and is of medium build and is approximately 117cm tall.
Thomas was reportedly very distressed to be leaving his father's care on the day the children disappeared.
The Federal Court's recovery order authorises all members of the Australian Federal Police and the state and territory police forces to recover the children.
Anyone with information on their whereabouts should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
