THE love wasn't in the air for John Paul Young last night with the crooner the first contestant eliminated from Dancing With The Stars.
Dancing a samba to his own hit song JPY, as he's affectionately known, looked somewhat overwhelmed with the routine at times but was philosophical about his early exit from the show.
"It's good and bad - I'm kind of relieved, kind of sad - sad for [dance partner] Giselle as she deserved to be there a bit longer," he told APN.
"It really is quite a workout; Michael Caton and Kerri-Anne Kennerley had warned me to get fit but getting fit really isn't good enough - there's not much fitness training you can do to get you used to just being on your toes for that long, you get in the car after training and you realise that you can't walk when you try to get out of the car."
Despite being out of the running to bring home the prize money for chosen charity Variety The Children's Charity, he hoped to auction off the logo waistcoat he wore during the performance to raise funds for the organisation.
Happy to hang up the dancing shoes for a while he had nothing but praise for his co-stars.
"There is so much more brain power involved than I ever gave it credit for - you really do dance upstairs not downstairs. It was just terrifying trying to remember everything on live television."
"It was a great experience and I met some really great people - it was totally non-ego driven and everyone was just so lovely, including the professionals who are just marvellous and very generous of their talent."
"There's no shame in running out against this lot [of fellow competitors], they are pretty good indeed."
At the end of the second episode the top three from last week - Ash Pollard, Emma Freedman and Matthew Mitcham - remain in poll positions as the contestants prepare for next week's Rio themed episode.
Too soon to call who could be in the finals, John singled out Matthew, Ash, Emma and Mat Rogers as some of those who were particularly good on their feet and would be watching the rest of the series with great interest.
Dancing With The Stars airs live at 7pm Sundays on Seven.
