Man stabbed in the chest, goes for a ride on his bicycle

A MAN who had been stabbed in the chest rode a bicycle from Tweed Heads to Coolangatta before collapsing, police have said.

In a statement, police media said the man was stabbed in the chest late last night during an argument with a woman at a Tweed Heads home.

The man left the house and rode his bike to a Coolangatta home where he collapsed outside.

Neighbours came to the man's aid, contacting emergency services who rushed him to a Gold Coast hospital, where he was reported to be in a critical but stable condition. No information was available on the extent of the man's wound.

Police arrested a woman at a Tweed Heads home. At this stage she has not been charged and police say she is "assisting with inquiries" at Tweed Heads Police Station.

Police have declared both homes crime scenes. They were expected to be examined by specialist forensic officers this morning.

Anyone with information on the incident should phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
