TRAGIC: Man, young boy killed, girl, 6, fights for life

A SIX-year-old girl is fighting for life after a horror smash on the Bunya Highway west of the Sunshine Coast killed two people, including a seven-year-old boy.

Queensland Police said the semi-trailer, which was towing a tri axle trailer, smashed into the white dual cab ute around 4.55pm on Tuesday at the intersection of Kilroy Murgon Rd and the Bunya Highway in Murgon.

Two of the four people in the ute, the 27-year-old male driver and a seven-year-old boy sitting in the rear seat, were declared deceased at the scene.

A six-year-old female passenger remains fighting for life at the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital.

She sustained critical head injuries and was rushed to Murgon Hospital, where she was met by ambulance helicopter Rescue 511 and airlifted.

The fourth passenger, a one-year-old girl, suffered minor injuries and has been released from hospital.

The truck driver was treated for shock but was otherwise uninjured.

Queensland Police are appealing for anyone who was travelling on the Bunya Highway or Kilcoy Murgon Rd around the time of the incident to contact them, especially if they have dashcam footage.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

The Bunya Highway has since reopened.
