AN ISLAMIC State female suicide bomber is believed to be responsible for the attack that killed 30 people and injured 100 in the Turkish town of Suruc.
Turkey is reportedly cracking down on IS militants, having previously been accused of ignoring them to thwart the rising power of the Kurds in Syria.
Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has responded to the tragedy by promising to boost security along the country's border with Syria.
A violent protest in Istanbul followed the bombing, with police using water cannon, teargas and rubber bullets.
The bomber targeted a group of youth activists who intended to cross into Syria to help rebuild the town of Kobane.
Just across the border from Suruc, Kobane has been a hotspot in the battle between IS and Kurdish fighters.
It has been held by the Kurds since January and many of its former inhabitants are living in Suruc, having fled the fighting in their hometown.
